Review Score: 5 stars out of 5

This week's review is of "Practical Statistics for Data Scientists: 50 Essential Concepts," by Peter and Andrew Bruce. This convenient book provides a helpful summary of many of the common statistical and analytic methods commonly used in data science. While not mathematically deep, the book does an excellent job providing background on a wide range of methods, and of providing a big-picture overview of when and why it would be appropriate to choose various methods.

Given the surface level treatment of the topics, this book is well-suited to reading a section a day on a kindle so as to gradually enhance one's awareness of a wide range of techniques. In addition to its approachability, the book provides many references for those who want to dig deeper, and hence serves as an excellent introduction to the statistical techniques commonly used in data science. For those who want to simply gain a broad sense of what tools may be at their disposal, I highly recommend this book.
