Recommended Resource - SandDance Data Visualization

Can you make the sand dance?

Welcome back to our "Reviews and Recommendations" series, in which we recommend resources to help sensory and consumer scientists learn more about artificial intelligence!

This past week at the Symposium on Data Science and Statistics in Bellevue, Washington, I had the pleasure of attending a talk given by Steven Drucker of Microsoft titled "Unit Visualizations and the Grammar of Graphics." This talk opened my eyes to the value of unit visualizations, which are visualizations that explicitly plot every record in a dataset as a single unit in the chart.

In addition to Steven Drucker being a genius, which gave the entire talk an air of exhilaration for me, I was excited by the freely available visualization tool, "SandDance," that he shared. While it would be wise not to upload any proprietary data to the free online tool, you can work with several of the built-in datasets; connect to publically available online datasets, such as the datasets for "R for Marketing Research and Analytics;" or upload your own appropriately chosen datasets. Also, if you are a Microsoft Power BI user, the SandDance tool is available as a custom visual.

Click here to use the free online tool, and enjoy your data visualizations!
